Flexible factories

Whether it involves diversifying needs, introducing new needs, eliminating borders, speeding up time or prioritizing the short or medium terms – all of these interests revolve around flexibility, which all too often is a concept that still clashes with our typical image of industry.

Digital technologies and built-in sensors are starting to provide solutions in that they optimize production from when the factory is in the design phase or the operation phase. "Smart" means more connected:

  • to its supply chain for constant production upgrades based on available resources.
  • to other plants: Continuous optimization of the production chain, the emergence of circular economies
  • to itself (machine interaction): Optimization of consumption, flow and maintenance, etc.
  • to people; Continuous improvement of production processes through human-machine interaction.

Process simulation and testing tools are now optimizing product quality and factory performance across a broad operational spectrum.

Even the factory's configuration, the layout design of production clusters, the calibration of individual machines and optimized management of the plant's internal and external flows are among the key parameters that enable plants to adapt or reorganize to react to changes in speed or the product models on order.
